Marina Bahía Golfito newly hosts Battle of the Bay Sportfishing Tournament
This week marks the return of the Battle of the Bay, an elite sportfishing tournament set against the breathtaking backdrop of Golfo Dulce, Costa Rica, taking place May 8-9, 2026.
Hosted in partnership with Crocodile Bay and The Zancudo Lodge, the tournament brings together top anglers and passionate fishing enthusiasts for two days of world-class competition in one of the most biodiverse marine environments on Earth.
Designed to showcase the extraordinary fishing opportunities of southern Costa Rica, Battle of the Bay highlights Golfo Dulce’s reputation as a premier international sportfishing destination. Competitors will test their skills across multiple categories while experiencing unmatched natural beauty, abundant wildlife, and pristine waters that define the region. The official awards ceremony and closing celebration will take place at Marina Bahía Golfito.
One of the most vibrant destinations in Costa Rica, located in Golfo Dulce. Framed by the lush mangroves of Corcovado and Piedras Blancas National Parks, it is home to some of the richest biodiversity in the world. Nestled where the rainforest meets the sea, Marina Bahia Golfito is a thriving example of Costa Rican hospitality with a waterfront hotel and state-of-the-art marina designed for eco-adventurers, boaters, Nature researchers, and outdoor lovers of all ages and interests who come to reconnect with Nature through an array of immersive adventures and activities. The 54-slip, full-service marina provides fuel services and an experienced marina staff to assist with any needs while in port. The marina village is curated with shops and services from beauty stores to ice cream shops, and more. Teams of up to six anglers may compete across multiple categories, with individual entry available for Billfish, Roosterfish, and Gamefish, as well as the coveted Triple Crown category. The standard registration fee is $1,130 per category, with the Triple Crown priced at $4,520.
Battle of the Bay will kick off on Friday, May 8, 2026, with tournament registration held at Botánika Resort from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by the official Captains’ Meeting from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM Competitive fishing begins on Saturday, May 9, with a full day on the water starting at 6:00 a.m. and the official tournament start at 6:30 AM. Fishing continues on Sunday, May 10, followed by the official weigh-in at Marina Bahía Golfito from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM The tournament concludes with the Closing Event and Awards Ceremony at 6:00 PM at Marina Bahía Golfito.
